Relaxed Performance note: There is loud drone music in parts of the piece.

Caner Teker creates new queer spaces by appropriating techniques of Turkish oil wrestling (Yağlı Güreş). In this traditional martial art, two oiled wrestlers wearing buffalo skin pants try to push their opponent’s shoulders to the ground. The two marginalized performers in Kırkpınar break with these hypermasculine power dynamics and put questions of vulnerability and intimacy first.

CANER TEKER graduated at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in visual arts and currently studies at SNDO – School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam.
