DANDELION II
Dance/Visual Sign Performance
Hochzeitssaal
No language

The performances of Dandelion II will be shown as a double bill with A Strategy for the Fragile by Shiori Tada.

Entering the stage as a playground, she explores the combination of dance and sign language movements and creates a whole new form of visual poetry. She links rules of sign language such as hand shapes, facial expressions and ordinary movements with movement studies by Laban, with ballet and Visual Vernacular – an art form of sign language that is very popular in the deaf community. Some moments of the solo performance are also inspired by works by deaf poets of the 1980s, such as Clayton Valli’s Dandelion and Robert Panara’s poem On his Deafness.

Dandelion II lasts about 30-40 minutes. The piece is very visual and is inspired in parts by American and German sign language (ASL, DGS). It is suitable for an audience without sign language skills. At some moments the room is very dark. There will be fog onstage. The audience area on the grandstand is seated. There are two wheelchair spaces and one beanbag seat that can be reserved by phone or booked via the online ticket shop, if available. Admission begins 20-30 minutes prior to show time. We recommend arriving early to select a suitable seat. If you have any questions or need further information, please contact Gina Jeske at or 030 27 89 00 35.
